Time for Scanning

We lamb in April. Lambs take about 147 days to grow so between once the ewes have been pregnant for about 75 to 80 days, we have our scanning man Bob, come and scan the ewes. The machinery is just like you have in hospital, only the ewes stay standing, and don’t get loads of blue paper! Bob can very accurately scan about 100 plus ewes per hour - I’m not sure how he manages it, but he only gets the odd one wrong, and that is generally when the ewe is having triplets or more!

The misserable little swines have caused me enough greif - time for revenge!

We have lamb available to purchase all year round, but by July, the first of the April born lambs will be ready for the butcher. Its a bit of a sad time, but it does tell us we are doing our job properly - healthy fast growing lambs
